Churches & Religious Organizations

Your Mission Is to Serve Your Community. One Lawsuit, One Storm, or One Allegation Can Threaten Everything You've Built.

Florida faith-based organizations face risks that standard business policies were never designed to cover. From slip-and-fall claims during Sunday services to allegations of misconduct, leadership liability disputes, hurricane damage to your sanctuary, or a data breach from your online giving platform — the exposure is real, and the consequences of being underinsured can be devastating.

Since 1982, Aubrey Rogers Insurance Agency has been helping churches, mosques, synagogues, temples, faith-based schools, and ministry organizations across Florida protect what they've spent years building. We understand that your organization isn't just a business — and your insurance shouldn't be treated like one.

Why Religious Organizations Need Specialized Coverage

A standard commercial policy won't cover many of the risks unique to faith-based organizations. Here's what keeps ministry leaders up at night — and what proper coverage addresses:

Abuse & Molestation Liability — Any organization working with children or vulnerable individuals needs this coverage. Even a false allegation requires a legal defense. Without coverage, those costs come directly out of your ministry's resources.

Directors & Officers (D&O) Liability — Pastors, elders, board members, and trustees can be personally named in lawsuits involving financial decisions, employment disputes, or governance matters. D&O coverage protects your leadership from personal financial ruin.

General Liability — Slip-and-fall injuries on your property, accidents during church-sponsored events, and claims arising from your operations. This is the foundation of any ministry insurance program.

Commercial Property — Your sanctuary, fellowship hall, school buildings, equipment, furnishings, and contents. In Florida, storm and hurricane exposure makes proper property coverage critical — and replacement cost coverage essential.

Business Interruption — If a covered loss forces your doors to close, this coverage replaces lost income and covers ongoing expenses while you rebuild.

Workers' Compensation — Required in Florida for most organizations with employees, including part-time staff and clergy.

Pastoral Counseling Liability — Protects pastors and trained lay counselors from claims of negligence, error, or omission arising from counseling services.

Hired & Non-Owned Auto — Volunteers and staff regularly use personal vehicles for ministry work. Your standard auto policy won't cover that exposure.

Umbrella / Excess Liability — An extra layer of protection above your underlying policies for catastrophic claims.

Cyber Liability — If your organization accepts online donations, stores member data, or uses digital platforms for communications, cyber liability coverage is no longer optional.

Why Gainesville Faith-Based Organizations Choose Aubrey Rogers

One of Florida's Top Faith-Based Insurance Writers — Our agency insures more churches, ministries, schools, and faith-based organizations across the state than most agencies. That volume gives us relationships with carriers and access to markets that most agencies simply don't have. We find coverage where others can't.

Florida Specialists — The faith-based organization insurance market in Florida is genuinely difficult right now.  Major specialty carriers have pulled back or tightened underwriting significantly. As an independent agency, we have access to multiple markets — including specialty carriers that write faith-based risks other agencies can't place. Through our partnerships in the marketplace, we have access to Liberty Mutual, Travelers, Penn American, Guide One, Kinsale, Scottsdale/Nationwide, Western World, USLI and other nationally rated carriers to find the right fit for your ministry.

We Know the Coverage Gaps — Most religious organizations are underinsured in at least one critical area. We review your current coverage and identify what's missing before a claim reveals it.

Local, Not a Call Center — You talk to the same people every time. 2400 NW 6th Street, Gainesville, FL.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does our organization need abuse and molestation coverage?
Yes — if your organization works with children, youth, or vulnerable adults in any capacity. This coverage pays legal defense costs and potential settlements for allegations of sexual misconduct or abuse, even if the claim is ultimately proven false. It is one of the most critical and most commonly overlooked coverages for faith-based organizations.

Are volunteers covered under our organization's insurance policy?
Not automatically. Volunteer coverage must be specifically included in your policy. We review volunteer exposure carefully when structuring your program.

Does Florida require workers' compensation for faith-based organizations?
In most cases, yes — Florida law requires workers' compensation for organizations with four or more employees, including part-time workers. Clergy and staff compensation should be reviewed with an agent to confirm compliance.

What does Directors & Officers insurance cover for a faith-based organization?
It protects board members, elders, trustees, and other leadership from personal liability arising from decisions made in their official capacity — including employment disputes, financial decisions, and governance matters. Without it, your leaders' personal assets are at risk.

Is our property covered for hurricane damage?
Wind coverage can be included, but in Florida, hurricane deductibles are typically calculated as a percentage of your building's insured value — not a flat dollar amount. On a $1 million sanctuary, a 2% hurricane deductible means $20,000 out of pocket before coverage applies. We structure deductibles carefully so there are no surprises after a storm.

Can you insure a faith-based school or daycare on our campus?
Yes. Faith-based schools and daycare programs require additional coverage including educator liability, abuse and molestation protection, and premises liability for classrooms and playgrounds. We write these risks regularly.
